Haunting work

Came across US based illustrator Richard Wilkinson's work which has an amazingly expressive and haunting quality to it.  The two headshots were representations of being told bad news.  The falling guy and flying girl depict common oft-had dreams.  The last was for a feature on diabetes.  http://www.richard-wilkinson.com

Wendy Bevan

Wendy Bevan's agent came to see me yesterday leaving me utterly enchanted by her work.  She shoots on polaroid giving her work a lovely nostalgic textural feel.  I also think her work can look undeniably modern too, probably because it has such stand-out and therefore feels so fresh.  Hooray for the return of polaroid film!  http://www.wendybevan.com

Extra ordinary lives

Gregg Segal is based near Hollywood and is fascinated by the juxtaposition of the ordinary with the fantastic.  He chose to shoot the bit part actors, who spend their days dressed as superheroes touting their trade on the streets of Hollywood,  at home doing day-to-day chores.  Similarly, he came across ordinary people who like to escape from the humdrum of reality dressed as their pirate alter egos;  we see them in costume at work. http://www.greggsegal.com

Afghan Grafitti

Dylan Collard has just re-designed his website - which is a joy to use - and whilst I was perusing it, I came across his lovely series of shopkeepers.  I am fascinated by small independent shops and those who keep them (father-in-law is a proper old-fashioned butcher) so the subject matter is dear to my heart.  Dylan has portrayed them proud and resolute, holding fast to their place on our high streets. http://www.dylancollard.com

Orchid Beach

Wayne Lawrence shot these beach belles at Orchid Beach NY where Bronx residents go for R & R. Reminded me of Rineke Dijkstra's beach adolescents but unlike them, these girls are confident, cool and sassy despite the daily struggles they must inevitably face growing up where they do.
