Guess the flag!

I have long been a fan of Corriette Schoenaerts's work and so was struck by how she takes the primary colours and simple patterns of various national flags and reinterprets them in this series.  I also love the choice of random objects used in her interpretation; just as long as they fit in colour and form, why not use a girl with loads of balloons and two front doors for Romania??  Corriette also really relishes the challenge of working with different scales in large sets.  See more here: Corriette Schoenaerts

Paper Mistress

This stunning pastiche series of Dutch old master still life paintings was a collaborative effort by a Stockholm-based team; photographer Olivia Jeczmyk, stylist Joanna Laven and Fideli Sundqvist, a paper artist.  Fideli can make pretty much anything out of paper; a rock band doing a set, an exquisite meal, a bouquet of flowers. She also does lino-cuts and silhouettes too. Talented bunch, all at Agent Molly

Lost laundry

When we used to fly into Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong, I remember the terrifying landing path  taking us so low over the densely packed streets that you could distinguish the items of freshly washed clothes hanging outside the high rise apartment blocks.  Michael Wolf is a German photographer who has spent a great deal of time in the Far East documenting life in the mega cities of Hong Kong and Tokyo.  These images of lost and never-to-be-retrieved washing say much about the living conditions of ordinary people in these places.  It's interesting how quickly the items lose colour and become part of the decaying greying dirty urban environment. Hanging out with The Furries

1st post for 2013 had to be Tom Broadbent's intriguing project on The Fur Club.  1st rule of Fur Club: don't reveal your identity.  2nd rule of Fur Club: don't talk to journalists.  Tom has been getting to know the various Furries, who are all sorts of people from bank managers to project managers to actors, over a few years gaining their trust and wanted to photograph them in their homes and normal environments.  They basically like to dress up in these elaborate furry costumes and hang out. Sometimes a few of them get together to walk about around St Paul's and the Millennium Bridge. Tom accompanied them on one such walk and I can't wait to see the result of that encounter.  He plans to exhibit and publish this wonderful series so keep an eye out for that.  So if ever you're passing St Paul's and you see them, you'll know it's The Furries that are out!  Tom Broadbent
