Back to the Future

This is genius...  Came across this on How to be a Retronaut. Irina Werning invites people to send her old photos which she then recreates featuring  them as they are now.  I can't get over her attention to detail on knitting that blue and grey jumper or finding the exact spot in Berlin where the wall once stood.  Enjoy them all here: http://www.irinawerning.com/bttf2/back-to-the-future-2-2011/

Olympic sports in 3D paper art

Kath Jackson is the artist behind these wonderful 3D paper sports themed tableaux... I love the detail and individuality of each figure and the way the action on each scene breaks out of the frame.  Kath's working on some animation and she also does beautiful window installations.... See http://www.metcalfelancaster.com for more.

Don't just tell them show them

Found Jesse Marlow's fantastic series Don't Just Tell Them Show Them on http://www.in-public.com, Nick Turpin's site dedicated to street photography.  Jesse's work has won him countless awards including last year's International Street Photography award which is now inviting entrants to submit work for this year's competition. He takes the pictures I wish I could! http://www.jessemarlow.com/portfolio/dont-tell-them-show-them-page/

Abstract seaside

Came across a feature on Leslie Jean Bart's work on http://acurator.com which is a wonderful online magazine showcasing great photography. He spends hours during the summer at Coney Island observing the daytrippers to take these shots... Love the last one that reminds me of Seurat's painting.
See more of his work here: http://www.lesliejean-bart.com

Street portraits

Just come across the wonderful work of Darren Hall, a British photographer who divides his time between UK and New York.  The beautiful shot of the girl in the orange vest has been shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing prize.  The head shots were done on 5th Avenue whilst the two shots of person captured amid a crowd were done near the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane... I love how in these shots the New Yorkers  appear perfectly stylish, not hair out of place, whilst the Londoners have a little more grit and edge.  See more at http://darrenhallphoto.com/

Shelf Art

Love the idea of turning your Ikea Billy bookcase into a work of art using objects lying around the house... These are charming and make me smile on a dull winter afternoon and must have been a delight to make.  Peter Langer shot them with Nina Lemm styling for the Suddeutsche Zeitung Magazin.  See more of  Peter's work here: Peter Langer c/o AK-Kruse Artists' Management & Nina's work here: Nina Lemm c/o Liganord

Old icecream vans

These icecream vans no longer conform to EU regs apparently so Luke Stephenson shot them to preserve a little bit of childhood memorabilia before they go to the scrapyard.  The icecream van drivers were too bashful to be included in shot too sadly.  See more and a little film here: Luke Stephenson's icecream van film

Bas relief

This intriguing series was created by John Ross who persuaded his models to lie naked in a mixture of flour and plaster of paris on a large perspex sheet beneath which he then captured these images. They remind me of the Elgin Marbles or something equally ancient and Greek.  John Ross

Mirror and coloured perspex

Am a big fan of Vivianne Sassen.  Her work is all about form and colour explored beautifully here through the use of sheets of coloured perspex and mirror in these two recent editorials... http://www.wefolk.com/photographs/3351-numero-magazine-october-11
