Dreams of Flying

Jan von Holleben's fanciful series of kids at play in their makebelieve worlds is kind of nostalgic and utterly wonderful.  http://www.janvonholleben.com

Left Behind

Staying with the theme of abandonment, I stumbled across this project by San Francisco-based photographer David Wolf.  The project started when he could no longer ignore the amazing array of things people were leaving on the pavements of his neighbourhood.  His rule is that he photographs things exactly as he finds them.  http://davidwolfphotographs.com

Abandoned

London-based photographer Henrik Knudsen is currently exploring situations where nature is reclaiming what we leave behind, illustrated here in these shots of an abandoned housing estate.  Gone are the front gardens, pathways and pavements now covered by meadow-like grass.  His work also includes a series of shots taken in famous film locations - see at http://www.henrikknudsen.com/

Bedrooms of the fallen

A friend has just sent me this link to a project US photographer Ashley Gilbertson has spent several years working on.  It's a very poignant record of the lives young US combatants killed in action have left behind.  Brilliant and powerful.

My new favourite blog....

How To Be a Retronaut is a wondrously clever idea; a visual timemachine with the most fantastic photographic record of times and things gone by.  Guaranteed to keep me occupied for hours!  Am obsessed with all things London, particularly street photography of the city and here are some wonderful shots of Piccadilly Circus and theatreland circa 1949.  Love the mustardy tones in these shots.  The non-descript-looking street in the bottom shot is really familiar too  - think it's near where I work between Russell Square and Kings Cross. Remembering Chernobyl

Jim Krantz has been documenting the after effects of Chernobyl for the past 15 years.  A book is due out to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reactor meltdown.  http://www.jimkrantz.com

Machines get their own back....

Ben Sandler's work is disturbing and beautiful. The wit in this series is charming but check out his site for Tomorrowland which has created a bit of a stir. http://www.bensandler.com/

Sleeping Party Animals....

Dutch photographer Pim Vuik shot these beautiful sleeping wild creatures as part of a campaign for VW.  Don't know the significance of the car tracks and the party paraphernalia without knowing the lines on the ads but think they are intriguing none-the-less... http://www.createagency.nl

And finally...

Couldn't resist including this last series by Kalpesh Lathigra who was commissioned by French Grazia to shoot the English at play in full Royal Wedding regalia... http://www.kalpeshlathigra.com

And more red, white & blue...

Paul O Connor was commissioned by Rimmel to capture moments from the Royal Wedding day.

Love Rooney's observations of flags, bunting and balloons.... part of his personal portfolio.

Both photographers are represented by Lucy at http://www.swerverepresents.com
